Thanksgiving – alone?

Pumpkin Pie

My Yummy Low Carb Pumpkin pie!

Just a short little post.

This will be the first year in nearly 38 years that Al and I have spent Thanksgiving without family.

Times change, people and places change.  But hey, that’s okay.  Life would be pretty boring if things didn’t change.

Our First Thanksgiving together as husband and wife, we spent with my brother and his wife.    We traveled 400 miles in a horrible snow storm over the Wind River Range in Wyoming on our way to Idaho.

It stormed going to Idaho and snowed on our way back to Wyoming.

We had great days while we were with my brother and his wife.

Since that time, we have had many Thanksgivings with all kinds.  Some with Al’s family, some with my family and the past 8 years with one of our Son and his wife.

Well, they have moved far away, so they won’t be hosting the Great Turkey feast his wife would always prepare.    Our other sons have to work as do their wifes so getting together with them – well – just won’t happen – at least for now.

That’s okay.   We will go to a local restaurant and enjoy a great meal out.   One I don’t have to cook, just enjoy.    I love watching people and this restaurant is serving a buffet.   Great place to watch people.

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving.  Ours will be different but I’m sure it will still be a day – just as everyday is – to be Thankful for all the things we have and enjoy.

Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without having Pumpkin pie for breakfast!  That is one tradition we cannot forget.

Happy Turkey Day Everyone!

(I’ll post the recipe for the Pumpkin pie in another post – for now – you’ll just have to drool.)

What do I mean by ‘many hats’?

Just think a little bit about this.   It is quite simple really.

When you think of various ‘jobs’ or ‘careers’ or ’employment’ in years past, but not necessarily today, a person could easily be identified by a type of ‘head covering’ – you know some king of ‘hat’.

There are construction workers, fire fighters, nurses, nuns, police officers, A stack of many different hatsbaseball and football players, cowboys, dunce, witch, princess, queen or king, business man or aristocrat (Okay – this one is rarily seen), all of these folks wear a different ‘hat’.  Literally, they wear different hats!

As you continue to think about ‘many hats’,  I think of all the ‘hats’ as a person I have worn.   Now they won’t be the ‘literal’ hats but the ‘figurative’  hats I have worn.  The ones worn as I’ve been in various rolls and postitions.  The ones    worn as I fulfilled certain needs and requirements in my life.

You probably have a pretty long list of ‘hats’ you have worn too.  Each of them make up a part of who you are and often show the importance you have been to others in your life.

Each of these ‘hats’ will help develop your personality and character throughout the years, but also they help you to fulfill and live a wide and varied life.

Each of your ‘hats’ will have distinct memories of accomplishments (and mistakes) you have made along the way.  All the while learning what life is all about.

Here is a short list of some of those many ‘Hats’ I’ve worn and continue to wear, these are not listed in any particular order but I did start with the one I believed to be the first one – since I did have to be born and was someones daughter:
Veterinary Technician
Boy Scout Leader

As we continue our journey together, I’ll continue to write about my ‘hats’ and maybe yours too.    Sharing our ‘hats’ we’ll help us both to continue to grow in this journey they call ‘Life’.

What ‘hat’ are you wearing today?     My ‘Lets Cook Supper’ hat is needing to be placed upon my head!  Supper anyone?

How did we get into this Aromatherapy thing?

We are asked often about how we got interested in Aromatherapy.

It began back in the mid 1990’s when after nearly 15 years involved with our sons  in the Boy Scouts, it came to an end.

Our sons had all grown and we decided it was time to let others work with their sons.

Well, I had plenty of things still going on, but Al, well, I told him he couldn’t let his mind go stagnant.  He had to find something of interest and continue to learn.

He started on the internet by looking up massage therapy.  Back then he thought me might like to pursue massage therapy, but due to a back injury he didn’t think he could stand to give massages.

Then he saw this thing called Aroma therapy.   Since we are naturally health minded he started to get really interested.  So much so, that pretty soon he had purchased several books.  Then more books.

Pretty soon we had oils too.   Next, as he was getting more serious,  we dug into our pockets and he soon took an Aromatherapy Course.  One of the top ones in the nation!

When he was almost done with the course he started getting inquiries from friends about where to get some of these ‘essential oils’.

Ding, Ding, Ding!  We thought about it and since I knew webpage design and he knew about essential oils.  The next thing we knew, we had a Business name,  a website and were set up for business.   This all started back in 1995 and it took 2 years to actually ‘fly’.   In April 1997, Birch Hill Happenings was born.

Over the years we have given dozens of consultations and soon I joined him in the aromatherapy business.  I decided to get a Certificate through a more ‘medical’ aspect.  My course was more specific to medical therapeutic uses of essential oils than the broader course Al had taken.    We felt this would be a great addition to our business since so many questions are about ‘health concerns’ and ways to use essential oils in the Complementary and Alternative Health field.

Here it is now some 15 years later.   We are still continuing our Aromatherapy Business and with the years of accumulated knowledge we again are expanding.

To continue to help folks to help themselves, we are writing a book together – soon to be released – watch this site for announcement – for our new book –  Aromatherapy Basics.

Of course my first book,  Aromatherapy Recipes using Pure Essential Oils Volume 1 is available through  my ordering site.  Click Here for that.

So now you know how we got started.  Again, always Learning and reading to keep our minds working, and to stay young and to stay Healthy!

The Beginning

Well here I am, starting something new.

I’ve never had a Blog before.  I’ve always written html coding and published actual webpages.

Learning something new is scary yet fun and exciting.

Please follow along as I begin a new era of writing.  Over the next few days I hope to get you started at learning “new” things too.
